KYS Backing

Backing & Stabilizers

At KYS EMBROIDERY SUPPLIES we carry backing manufactured by QST- John Solomon.  They are the world leaders in embroidery backings.  All the products supplied by KYS are non-directional and very dense. These backings have no give or stretch when hooped. You will achieve a "skin" tight tension for improved registration of your designs. One piece of backing is all that is necessary in most applications. Do not fall into the pitfall of layering backing. Digitizing and poor registration problems are not solved with extra layers. Additionally, styles 633, 824 and 498 are specifically designed to be soft. This is beneficial if the embroidery will be in contact with the skin. Using the correct backing is the foundation of good embroidery. We would be pleased to send a sample packet containing the backing & stabilizer products.

BACKING QUICK GUIDE

PIQUES, KNITS (T-SHIRTS AND POLO SHIRTS)

Low to medium stitch counts - use the 2-ounce soft cutaway style 824.

High and more dense stitch counts - use the 3 ounce soft cutaway style 498- most popular and most recommended!

The preferred backing for lightweight knit or a lightly colored knit is our cutaway 315, "no show mesh". This product can be used alone or with tearaway 678 or 633 to prevent any shadowing through of a heavier backing. It will improve the appearance while maintaining stability.

WOVEN SHIRTS AND JACKETS

Low to medium stitch counts - use the 2-ounce soft cutaway style 824.

High and more dense stitch counts - use the 3-ounce soft cutaway style 498- most popular and most recommended!

TERRY (ROBES), FLEECE, SWEATSHIRTS

Low to medium density small design - use the 2-ounce soft cutaway, style 824 or soft tearaway, style 633.

Full fronts and large designs - use the 3-ounce soft cutaway, style 498 or soft tearaway, style 633- both the 498 and 633 are excellent choices.

To prevent stitches from being buried in the fabric use 100 Solvy as a topical.

JACKETS

Stable nylons with lower stitch counts – use soft tearaway style 633.

Less stable nylon or higher stitch counts - use soft cutaway, 824 (2 ounce), 498 (3 ounce).

CAPS

2.5 ounce firm tearaway, style 611.

TOWELS

Medium to heavy stitch counts - use firm tearaway, style 678.

To prevent stitches from being buried into the fabric, use 100 Solvy as a topical treatment.
